About
A Message From our Founder – Dr. Volt
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working at a number of OEM companies, including Telxon (pronounced TEL-zon) and Vocollect, as well as leading test equipment manufacturers such as NH Research Inc., National Instruments (NI), and Emerson Corporation. In each role, I have personally built—or guided teams in building—wide-ranging testing solutions, spanning OEM products, batteries, AC and DC test systems, radio/RF applications, and more.
One pattern has become clear over the years: product companies often focus on selling more products rather than helping customers achieve meaningful application results. Support is typically proportional to potential new product sales—whether hardware, software, or services—and this challenge becomes even more pronounced when a manufacturer chooses to end-of-life a product, no longer offers that type of product, or is no longer in existence. I do not fault them for this focus, as their revenue depends on selling products. Yet this gap is significant for customers trying to achieve measurable, application-centered outcomes.
There are, of course, times when new products are necessary. In these situations, product companies naturally highlight the strengths of their offerings while minimizing limitations. Most reputable companies can provide an 80–90% solution—assuming they take the time to understand the application needs. The remaining 10–20% is left to the customer to determine how to integrate the product into their business processes. Ensuring that the actual application requirements are clearly defined in the specifications is crucial to start a proper product-fit process. Identifying the gaps between a proposed product (or products) and the application need provides a clearer picture of what it takes to successfully incorporate a new tool. These steps are often the most challenging parts of specification and validation when selecting new solutions.
It was these gaps that inspired the founding of Dr. Volt. Our mission is to help customers achieve measurable, application-centric results using the resources, tools, and personnel they already have, while also providing an application-focused resource to ensure that specifications are clearly defined and product-fit assessments are properly conducted when evaluating or purchasing new tools.
I have also observed that when engineers leave a company, they often pursue consulting roles. While they bring highly specialized knowledge, they are quickly bandwidth-limited and can support only a handful of clients at a time. Many maintain full-time employment to ensure income stability for themselves and their families, limiting their ability to apply expertise across the broader industry. Through Dr. Volt, we extend the reach of these skilled engineers, connecting them with organizations and industries that would otherwise struggle to access this expertise. This approach allows us to provide technical support that is both deep and widely available.
At Dr. Volt, we take a brand-agnostic approach. We evaluate your application needs objectively by partnering with you and your teams, guiding you toward the best-fit solutions—whether leveraging existing products or introducing new tools—to help you achieve your objectives efficiently and effectively. Our focus is always on outcomes, not on pushing a particular product or manufacturer.
Thank you for trusting Dr. Volt to help you turn your testing challenges into measurable results.
Sincerely,
Martin M Weiss
